Hi All,
I do not have the manual for my 1974 SB, I am wondering if anyone has the manuals, and could tell me a couple of things out of the manual?
The Information I am looking at is:
Cruising Speed.
Maximum Speed.
Shifting Points.
And any other stats like that.
This info is not in the manuals I have presently.
Thanks,
Matt |

matthew. If you do not find the info at the link from kiefernet. I have a 74 owners manual from my car that I can look it up. Just post here if you cannot find the info. Philip Amon |

Shift points I was given for my 79: first to second, 10mph. Second to third, 20 mph. Third to fourth, 40 mph. Although I try to get out of first as soon as I can, so I can get to third faster. |

My '74's had the cruising speed listed as 81 mph in the owner's manual, but they both would cruise at over 85 easily (on flat roads)! |

I did some research a while back and found maximum speed was 81 mph. I was able to run my '74 Super at 85 mph at times. If you are an experienced driver the shift points don't matter. I learned to shift when you hear the eingie rpms at a high sound. I tend to go 15-25-35. I did find in the John Muir book "How To Keep Your Vw Alive" it talks about the shift points and refers to "if you can't drive a vw correctly, buy an american car with an automatic". I found the book at my local library. hope this helps |

A mechanic once took my beetle for a test drive with me as a passenger and he had it up to 60 in 3rd. It was LOUD. All I could manage to say was "Gee, you like to rev it up, don't you?" Then he realized what he was doing and shifted. I would have preferred to strangle him but then, you know, crash and all that... |
