| Our 88 vanagon will often shut off during idle. Seems to get worse as you drive more. Sometimes seems perfectly fine. While driving and accelerating it is very jerky. Is this an air flow meter isssue? Replace? A while back our catalytic converter clogged and we punched that out and thought maybe some had got in the muffler but it seems to be getting worse so I’m not sure that’s the issue. Please share thoughts, thanks! |

Could be a bunch of things. In order of expense:
- Timing (free if you do it yourself)
- Bad ground somewhere in the van (free if you do it yourself, start under the dash)
- Spark plugs
- Temp 2 sensor
- Fuel pump
- Spark plug wires
- Injectors
- AFM
- Engine harness
- ECU _________________ '87 Syncro Ferric Oxyhydroxide Superleggera Edition

I don't know much, but it could be that hall sender wiring might be almost broken. find the hall sender attached to the distributer and wiggle it around while the van is idling and see what happens.
I've got to rewire mine this week. _________________ so many roads i know
