I am interested in hearing from anyone who has had success in getting a Beetle to handle well.
I have a 62 sedan which I use as a daily driver...about 25K per year. I have a recent hankering to improve the car's overall performance. So much is known (by others) about how to improve HP/torque output that I figured to go to the motor department after improving the handling characteristics. I realize the car will never handle like a Lotus, but I know there must be a way to improve balance, flatness through corners, predictability, adhesion, etc.
I look forward to hearing from you road racers!

lf your car has all stock suspension sway away kits or a camber compensator would make a huge difference. Also just making sure that your kings and links are tight and greased, and your steering dampner is working propperly. They go out all the time on old cars and it may have been out since you have owned the car. You wouldnt even have know. |

hey what size tire are you running?? one of the best things to do is but more rubber on the ground. the other ? is have you altered the height of the car if so how? and adjuster on a front end can make the car ride different changing how it handles give us more info on your car. |

put gas shocks on all four corners, put on a heavier front sway bar, stick a camber compentor under the back, make sure everything in the steering is tight, and set the free play in the steering wheel. You may also want to put a SLIGHTLY wider tire on the car, not too much or else you won't be able to steer. DO NOT put low profiles on the car and DO NOT adjust the torsion abrs to anything but stock specs. This is about all you can do, but believe me, you won't believe the difference for about $250(shocks, sway bar, compensator) |
