With the dogleg missing, how best to make sure the A post isn't slanting forward or backwards?

And also, but potentially less important, slanting inward or outward?

Use the door for fit/alignment. Strategically placed chains with turn buckles should help to pull the door/pillar into that sweet spot, BUT also one needs to keep in mind that the door hinges have quite a bit of alignment adjustment slop.

make sure you align your doors and dogleg with the glass and frame installed, without the weight of the window frame in the door it will throw off your alignment
