i have a problem cant get enough power and want to have a turbo by the end of this summer. may happen may not. but i want a turbo for my 2332cc engine and dont want it hanging out the back where i cant put my deck lid on. does nne one know of a good but cheap turbo company that can build one to fit under my deck lid with stand offs.im trying to run close to 400hp with this turbo, also will the engine run any cooler with the turbo. soon im going up to vintage performance in west chester pa and talking to them they put together a real nice turbo 68 featured in vw trend in april 2001.but for right now just asking around u guyz.
thanx

Look through the threads here, there is a couple in here that we have posted on just that. Also, not sure which issue, last month or the month before of VW Trends, they have an article of a turbo put onto a beetle that will fit under the bonnet. Also, on here somewhere, again not sure where, I think I actually put the link to a site that builds turbos. I am not currently on my puter so I can't just give the link at the moment. Hope it helps.

I'm trying to run close to 400hp with this turbo.
Is this for race only? How long do you want the engine to hold together between teardowns? You'll be hard pressed to find a combination that is reliable (to some degree), cost-effective, and that can deliver the 400 HP. At the least, you'll need to use a TF-1 or SCAT 3-piece case if you want the engine to hold together at all. You'll need some really good head hardware and case hardware too to hold the beast together as well.
Will the engine run any cooler with the turbo?
No, if anything, the engine will run lots hotter because you'll be increasing the charge temp (which will decrease volumetric efficiency which you can combat with more boost). You should plumb an air-air intercooler to make everything run lots cooler. You're bound to be thermally-overloading your 400HP type 1 with cast iron cylinders, but that is another story....you'd be better off building a turbo type 4 since it's better suited to larger displacements and higher output, not to mention the case will be strong enough in stock form to hold up. Heads will cool better too.
I would recommend that you hop onto shoptalkforums.com and visit the forced induction forum as well as the type 4rum-- you'll get some great help for the members over there as well as you should prolly search the archives, as your question has been asked before with some regularity.
Take care and have a merry Christmas!
