Just bought a 1965 camper to fix up but the interior has been changed to a passenger bus. I found a 1970 camper interior for sale but have no idea if it can be fit into the 65 interior. I didn't see a thread about this so I'm asking if y'all know the answer. I'm only talking about the inside, not the pop top.
Thanks and forgive me if I overlooked the existing answer. Just glad to be here!

Welcome! A lot of people consider putting in bay window westy interiors into split bus as they are easier and cheaper to find. Long story short you can probably make the interior fit but it will require some kludging. Depends how particular you are about the bus being "correct" and how many hacks you are prepared to do to achieve that end. My advice would be to take some time to consider how to fit that interior and how many hacks would be required to make it fit so that if you change your mind later the bus won't be permanently scarred.

Thanks! I wouldn't change the bus but I would modify the camping gear to try to make it fit. I hate to mess up the gear and am hoping that it might fit pretty close. I'm probably going to buy the interior and try to horse trade it toward the correct interior if it doesn't fit well. I'm going to buy it this afternoon. If the price is right.... I appreciate your quick response and the link.

The interior of a split bus is wider than a bay. Not much, but it is wider.

My '59 bus came with a '69 Westy interior in very rough shape. I did modify and use the bed, then made the rest of the interior I wanted. If you can do some woodworking, it can be a fun project.
There is more info on my thread.

I have a 1970 Westy SO67 kit in a split panelvan. The only hack I had to do was reduce the length of the long cabinet by about 10cm.

Thank you all for the input! I got the interior for four hundred bucks and it looks to be in very useful condition. I'm pretty handy so I'm sure I'll get it in there one way or another. I'll post some pictures when I get going.

My '66 had a '71 Westy set in it when I bought it. The curve of the bus wall doesn't quite match the closet edge, but the bed/seat fits fine and folds up and down without difficulty. Lived in it for three years and folded the bed up and down daily.

Good testimonial on the bed! LOL. So, could I make a template and jigsaw the new shape onto the closet edge to match the curve of the bus?

The shelves inside the long cabinet on my bus didn't meet the sides of the bus. I had to make new shelves, which I stuck on top of the original ones. Proper way to do it would have been to remove the old shelves and fit new ones in their place.

I cut the long cabinet front and back, though you could get away with just cutting the back. Mine was damaged in front, so I cut out the damaged section and refitted the front door panel. My split panelvan is a narrow hatch model, so I just removed the back panel of the cabinet and recut the profile to fit flush against the rear hatch frame. Your bus has a wide hatch, so you would probably need to remove and refit the rear panel after cutting.

Yup, it'll fit. I had to do a slight contour of the rear seat/bed, and closet, and contoured the jump seat to fit with the bulkhead panel and drink tray... Also made a custom mount for the table so I could keep the original long panel...

Very nice! I got a sink unit in the deal so I reckon it'll sit in there OK. BTW, my interior source still has the camper fiberglass top unit with all the hardware that goes with it. I didn't want it but it can still be had. Is that something to grab for resale or are they pretty easy to find?

Thanks! I imagine the sink will fit, haven't ever tried, and don't know about the fiberglass top, never looked into those. Seems like a hassle to deal with though if you don't have a use or buyer... But that's only my thoughts, based on nothing... hahaha

I would agree. Most of my thoughts are based on nothing also. That way I can consider them to be original. Need door skins for some lower door rust x 4. Will search the threads later tonite. Clues appreciated.
