You know, I was going to do the same thing! People love car art and it makes a great gift for women trying to find a nice gift for their VW men. Or if you just want a nice drawing of your car.

You could just draw a series of VWs (different years and models) and people would by them I think.

It would be easy for you (talent). You have a paypal account? If you get one or got one, I'd pay $20 for a pic of my 62 beetle. Be cool for you to customize the ride (lower, change wheels, roof rack, etc...) to give the owner a concept to go after or get a pic of the car they really want. Any drawing with your actual plates, scratches, stickers, etc..would be worth $20 easy. And you can get started right away, because most people here have pics in their gallery. Someone did this with the avatars last year and i think made some cash for their efforts. Let me know if you'd like to do my car as a test bed, and i'll shoot you some cash.

Are you doing just VW's or are you willing to do other things as well?
Can you work from a photo?
Can you do larger then 8 1/2 x 11?
What about adding color?

A poster size print (pencil or charcoal) could probably get you $30-40.

The images are of high quality, but there are a few technical issues-- I'll address those since you already know they're representationally sound.

Work on your value scale. Get a set of pencils(either in a tin as a set or you could start on-the-cheap by just getting 2H, HB, 2B, 4B and 6B) and make a gradation of 10 values from ground(paper) white to full black with each pencil. Also remember that an eraser is as effective a drawing tool as a pencil is! The images are washed-out(Did you use a 2B pencil exclusively?,) and having a rich black would make them more than good!!

Try to work from life on some preparatory studies-- it'll help your drawings from photographs possess a more 3-Dimensional quality.

You've a great start with these-- keep working!!

A good way to learn to work Black and White values is to convert digital photos to Grayscale in Photoshop or in any photo editing software.

But then you risk losing the artist's hand in all facets-- it's easy, then, to just apply a pencil filter and be done with the whole process!

Disclaimer: I was trained as a fine artist. It's quite the task to forget all of that and just accept that everything is automated outside of that, and a few other circles!

Every artist has their methods.
