Alright, I'm getting back into VWs after about 5 years off. I'm supposed to be leaving on a trip soon, and I'm desperate to get this carb issue resolved. I apologize if it's covered elsewhere. I just don't have time to search forever. So here are the specs-
1600dp with a 009 (I know, but I'll deal with that later), points, and a 30 pict-1 carb. The car sat forever and I'm fixing it up. I cleaned and rebuilt the carb.
It's getting gas to the carb. When I pull the line and crank the engine, it squirts out nicely.
It has spark.
Timing is close.
1.5 turns out on the idle/air screw.

If I dump a little gas down the carb, it fires up and runs until the gas is gone. So apparently something is blocked in the carb. I've disassembled it and blown air through the passages. Also, the float bowl is filling.

So what's next to check? I'm in a bit of a rush. Thanks for the help!

Update- Bus will start and run, but only if I pump the gas pedal furiously. I've cleaned the screen in the fuel pump, replaced fuel filter, and there seems to be adequate flow to the carb, which I've cleaned 3 times now. Any ideas as to why I have to work so hard to get fuel to the cylinders?

pumping the gas pedal and getting it to run shows that the accelerator pump is working no problem. Sounds like a plugged idle jet. Did you blow out and spray all jets as well as passages?

Will it rev up once you get it started after pumping the gas?

I thought I'd cleaned out everything really well in the carb. Soaked it in cleaner, then blew it out with a compressor. It will sort of rev after pumping the gas, but it won't idle at all. I suppose I could pull the carb again and check all the passages. I'm not terribly familiar with the guts of carbs. Any areas that need special attention? Thanks for your help!
