Has anyone ever rigged something like this for a Ghia? I am running dual Kadrons and the air cleaners hit hood springs. I know I can get shorter air cleaners, but I like this idea.

HVWs or VWTRends did an article on a Ghia that someone had installed the struts on the engine compartment. The guy who did it did a really nice job. The article gave fairly decent instructions, I think it was about two years ago, give or take a few months.

Like this?...
There's a great "how-to" article in Hot VW's from sometime in 2004 I believe. It gives the instructions, part numbers and all the details of how Mike Lawless did it on his '65 Ghia. I followed it to the letter and it turned out great. |

I was able to do it using a single Vanagon rear hatch strut.

That's pretty cool KarmannBob!
What are the measurements on the mount placement? _________________ To err is human, but if the eraser wears out before the pencil does you're a major screw-up. |

Exactly what I'm looking for. Can anyone narrow down that article for dual struts? Tried HotVW's search site, but it is painfully slow on dialup. |

I tried to look it up on Hot VW's website, but it's a needle in a haystack on that site. I'm pretty sure it was one of the summer 2004 issues. I'll keep looking. I did mine right out of the article and it was relatively easy to do. The hardest part was getting the measurements right and making the brackets for the struts, but still pretty easy. |

Maybe buy a back issue from Hot VW's? I borrowed it from one of my buddies when I used it. I'll see if he still has it. |

Hot VW's has a terrible website. Hate dealing with someone that I can't even call. If anyone comes across this article, I would love a scan or copy to sell.
Ovalboy: If I knew what struts to use, I believe I could figure the rest out. |

I'll see if there's a part number on mine. I bought them at NAPA. I can take some better pictures and e-mail them to you if you would like. |

I have this type of set up on my MG. Works fine but keep in mind that you may have to readjust your hood because of the upward pressure the struts puts on the hinges. For all the 'DIY' or 'figure it out yourselfers'. Check out the struts, end pieces, and mounts at
www.smallparts.com
search for 'gas springs'
