okay, i just switched out my dashbulbs w/ 2723's and since it's daylight, can't tell a difference...
i'll know by tonite how much brighter it is.
but, what i want to know has anyone come up with any alternative methods for hooking back the guage cluster to dash other than the clips? i only have 2, 2 are missing i suppose. I think the PO had tried some sort of glue to one corner, since i had to cut it loose with a blade carefully.
i guess i could bend some metal like the clips, but just curious if anyone else had a better idea than the clips.
thanks

Can't find any info on the Sylvania site about how many lumens the 2723 puts out. Wattage is a terrible way to value light output.
This has a 6 lumen output and their regular and colour LED with this base have a 2 lumen output. _________________ ". . . In beer there is freedom,

Any idea where I can get one of the bulb sockets that twist-fits into the marked holes? One of mine is chipped and doesn't stay lock in place.
I must say the 2723 bulbs are great though! Thanks for the tip... _________________ 1979 Microbus |

The placards on the dash by the lever slots are/were backlit. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Good tips on the brighter lights. I will give it a try when I go in to get the clock working.

Mission accomplished...sort of.
I pulled the pod out and located my non-used bulb. I stuck it in the correct place behind the climate controls, but my bulb holder is tweaked (broken) and wont stay in the hole. But it worked....if only for a minute while I held it there.
Bonus, I found the one missing pod clip that I lost 4 years ago! _________________ Eric

I'm glad I resurrected the thread.
Always nice to find a missing clip, eh? _________________ 1979 Microbus |

This is not a great pic but it does show the backlit heater controls

Here's another lousy shot of the '73-'75 dash at night, at 70 mph outside of Lordsburg NM last August.

OK feeling like a total idiot here, which if you ask my wife she may confirm. My 76 Bay instrument lights aren't working. Read though multiple posts and threads here. I tested the gray and red wire with and without the bulb holders on and the test light comes on. However when I put the bulbs into the holder they don't light up. tried putting the bulbs in in various directions and still nothing. I get power at all three holders, but they won't light up. New bulbs but they still won't light. Someone please tell me I am missing something easy before I just leave it running with the garage door closed. thanks, |

The little brass tab in amongst the bayonet tabs on the bulbholders has to make good contact with the back of the cluster, otherwise the bulb can't ground.
Try cleaning up around the hole, and bending the tab out a little for better contact. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.
