Not sure if anyone has come across this situation in Cal., but I have a '67 bus that has the wrong VIN...sort of...on the pink slip. To make a long story short, it looks like someone wrote the VIN down off the M-code plate instead of off the air box tag. The VIN on the pink is missing the "24" before the actual VIN. I am used to older buses which have the shorter VIN and didn't think twice. I saw that the number given by the PO matched the M-code and thought alls goods. I don't think there are any hijinx, I bought it from a guy who had owned it for over 20 years, but wonder if this has happened to anyone else and what you had to do to rectify it. _________________ Go Reds! The "24" is just the model of bus you have. The next digit should be a "7" which indicates it is a 1967 model.
As to what to do, you need to call your DMV and hope to find someone there that is helpful.
Rules and regulations are different from state to state and whether you can find someone helpful can vary from one locale to another. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

| I had something similar happen on a bus. The VIN matched the title and all #'s were correct. But the year on the title was wrong. The bus was a 65 but the title stated that it was a 68, obvious a mis printed typo. But the dmv didn't think so. I printed of the Technical section of this website, where it states that in 65 the 3'rd digit indicated year, then they were very helpful in correcting the title. You might do the same with the model info before the vin, and take that to the dmv. |

I had something similar. It was actally a friend's bus, and 2 of the digits on the VIN were transposed on the title. I got the VIN inspected by the WSP and my friend got a new title issued.
There should be a similar system in your state. Take a print out of the VIN locations from the owners manual, to document where theVin is actually located. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |
