Here is a part fastened to the front, right, bender with what appears to be original VW bolts. I need help figuring out what it is for..The hole is too small for the jack handle to fit through.

Guessing...

It looks like it could be to tie/chain the jack onto, to hold it in place.

something like that is what came to my mind as some early cars had a place to lock down the spare tire with a short chain ........i have looked on my 51 bug and i dont see the lock tab but i see it for sale here , this is what made me go look at my bug for one .

it is just a conversation looking for more / better info ? is how i see it ? what are you thinking ? the OP part looks worn like something went thru that hole ?

so what does a jack look like installed there , does anything line up ?
