|
|
Hi All,
I'm testing a dual - Advance and Retard - vacuum can from a '73, 1700 Westy. With the mighty vac I have good vacuum on the Advance side but the Retard side leaks a bit. This occurs on 2 cans I have. Is this normal or should it hold vacuum on both sides? Thanks

Look over the retard nipple closely, they get dinged often (vulnerable spot on a type 1) and get loose and leaky. JB weld is your friend here. There's only one diaphram in there so if it leaks one way it should leak the other. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Not neccesarily... I have seen plenty of DVDA that the vac advance side worked fine (held vacuum) when the retard side did not... and some even get by changing the timing spec to 7.5 BTDC instead of the 5 ATDC and they work fine....
Especially when you make the proper mod to the GERMAN DVDA flange # carbs when you switch to SVDA or 009 or other mechanical advance distributor requiring the change in timing specs
