PostPosted: Sun Dec 09, 2007 1:18 pm    Post subject: Water Reply with quote

Now that it has finally decided to rain in So Cal I've been finding out where water is coming into my bus. Over all it is dry but there are a couple of wet places.

I recently put new rubber on the doors, but I am still getting water on the doglegs, and a lot of water is somehow pooling up under my drivers side seat. I can't quite figure out where it comes from. The only thing I can think of is that the door is filling up faster than it can drain, but I'm not sure. Where the water is showing up means that it fills up all the way to the back end of the door. Does anyone else have this problem? I do need to replace the rubber at the bottom of the window.

I had the same problem--after a storm there would be a small pool of water on the passenger side of the rubber mat. My leak was at the top left corner of the windshield. If the glass has been replaced like mine, but they reused the same old seal, or got a new one from the wrong place, it doesn't fit perfectly, and you'll get a leak. I injected some silicone along the top of the seal, beneath the rubber, and got it sealed off. If this is your problem, you should probably get a new seal (like 20 bucks or so) to do the job right.

I'll bet you didn't tuck the extra flap of plastic on the door poly towards the inside of the door last time you had it apart.

I am having the same problems. I believe bus depot or wolfsburg west has the correct door seals that prevent this. The original style (which seals correctly) is about 50.00 more but worth the money in my opinion. At first I did not realize that seals were originally installed here (no evidence whatsover on my bus). However I noticed that the doors sounded hollow when closing them. Having frostbite on my left leg while driving home one night should have raised a question or two as well..I will let you know in a few days when I get my christmas gift installed.

I replaced that plastic sheeting last time I had the door panels off. Where is this flap? maybe I should add another piece?

The OG door plastic has a second flap attached horizontally to the inside of the poly just below the armrest area, the bottom end of it goes into the bottom of the door (at least the flat area above the wheel well) and diverts water away from the seam between the poly and the door. Leave it off and the doglegs beside the seats get wet.

My camera should be back from the shop today, I'll try to find a pic.
