Hi,

I own a 1978 T2 and I want to do an alternator conversion. On bays there were two alternators; a 55A and a 70A.

The 70A alternator requires a different pulley than the 55A, it needs a pulley with fan blades on it as seen on vanagons. Since early vanagons had type 4 engines as well the alternators should fit and so should the pulley. However, early vanagons had this blower attach to it, my question is if you can seperator the blower part from the alternator if if it's all one piece?

When it comes of it should look like the pulley in this picture:

If I can take the fan pulley of I could use it on my GD type 4 engine.

Anyone who knows if this can be done?

Remove the plastic fan shroud. Bind the pulley with a v belt. Remove the end nut. Pull the fan with a puller.
