|

Here is the situation, I have a '55 vert, it was lowered and had a later swing axle installed by a previous owner, I am taking the car back to stock including installing a the split case trans and 36hp.
The original trans mount was cut out, I am wondering if this piece will work for me to reinstall the split case trans http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=111701173c
would I need to fit a 61-67 nose cone onto my split case trans ?
Looking for the best way to accomplish this, any suggestions welcome !! |

can't answer the mount question but you can't use a later nosecone on the split trans, totally different _________________ Rick

You might be able to make that mount work with some cutting, grinding and welding. The rubber mount for a split case has a flat oval plate that is joined to the chassis with those two studs and I'm pretty sure they are the same spacing as the later trans studs, just mounted at a different height.
Here is a photo of stock for reference. If you can't find the right piece, I suggest you buy one of the later ones in your photo, bolt it up to the transaxle and visually align it to the correct spot on the chassis for welding in place. As long as the hockey stick is centered in the hole you should be good to go.
As already mentioned, split case will only accept another split case nose cone. Thank goodness for that or we'd be losing all these wonderful split case transaxles to the 60's Bugs!

Thank you both! I was having a hard time wrapping my mind around if the later mount would work, and did not know about the nose cone not being interchangeable to the later swing axles.
Good news is I think I have tracked the tunnel trans mount from a early donor chassis |
