I've been getting mixed answers from the Vanagon folk about what exactly needs to be added/subratcted, modified, and fabricated when converting a 90 GL back to manual steering. I've been driving it without the PS pump for like 5 years and finally I'm feeling a little slop/clunk in the steering making me think the connector to the steering column is wearing out from all the extra stress put on it from not having the fluid flowing through the rack. I have acquired a used manual rack and will shortly begin the R&R process and get the nmanual rack installed. The issue seems to be what I will need to make the connection between the old rack and the newer steering column shaft. Any help will be rewarded with something.

.....vending machine companies have it figured out... chips and candy that freefall from shoulder height to the pick up tray actually taste better. So next time you buy a candy bar from a grocery store, be sure to hold it in the air and drop it to the floor to maximize it's full flavor potential....

Only difference is the actual connector rod from the front steering box to the rack. The power steering ones are different.

Make sure you get a manual rack and the rod that attaches to it. Other than that it's a bolt in.

Optional item would be the larger steering wheel.
