I thought I would move my gallery pictures in to a build topic. Forgive me for the flood of pictures. 1 yr worth of manual labor, not sure how much love. Definitely know how many pennies, should I say dollars thus far.

Picture of when first brought her home. I knew I had some work to do. That should always be expected in any project. It continues to surprise me with hidden treats. I think after a year, I have found most of the hidden treasures.

Sat for 3 months before I could start on her. Mrs. orders to sell prior 63 project before tearing apart a new project.

Hope you enjoy the pics.

Original told pans were OK except for battery tray. Not a Flintstone mobile. However, rusted away on the insides next to the seat rails as well as extremely thin metal and thousands of pin holes. I discovered Thing pans require a little more work to remove due to reinforcement bars and and jack points than a beetle.

Skip some manual labor. A lot of cleaning and degreasing, started applying Master Series Silver for rust sealant.

made a stand from 2 engine stands. minor issue with angle of motor mount. Had to shim up back end of each stand to be parallel.

Nice pics! It looks like you are well on your way. I will be doing the same project on my '73 in spring. . I was wondering where you bought/will buy new pans, as I am in the market for a pair.
Best of luck with the completion and thanks for posting the progress.

Started top coat with Hard Nose Blue. Sold by company that sells Por15. 2 part paint that I sprayed. I am sure could be brushed. easier to spray. I was not fond of 2 part mix. Once mixed, gotta use it. I do like the Por15 black that you can reseal and use over and over. Left silver pans. Those will be bedlinered.

Put some bling on the rebuilt tranny, it is actually red. Sun makes it appear orange, added front and rear KYB's, new brake lines, CV boots, cv joints, new heavy sway bar. In between, built a set of duck boards from 1x2 Oak.

Took some time and built a rolling body stand. It had been on saw horses. I can roll the pan underneath for storage while being able to roll the body out on drive to work.

Started some sanding and exploratory surgery. Discovered a past life...Orange Crate....

Discovered what I knew was some bondo to what turned out to be major bondo with rust behind.

Easily determined extent of bondo and rust left no choice but to remove the outer rocker skin on the drivers side.

and along the way, discovered table scraps from nut eating rodents.

looking for qtr and outer rocker pics, found repair of door post. with things being shifted from prior accident, door was not completely aligned in opening. beat and beat and realigned and realigned. finally sliced door post and rebuild lower corner. also replaced rear apron metal. it was heavily distorted and bondo filled. I hammered on it for a while and tried shrinking. decided easier to cut out to restore flat metal.

OK, this one is real time. On Friday, I scored some 71-72 high back seats from local junkyard. Not bad for $75. $50 cheaper than local VW shop who sells used parts in area.

Frames are really clean. Minor surface. Will be recovering complete. Have og low backs. Looking for some added safety. Every little bit counts.
