|
|
I have read a bunch of threads where it says that modified shock towers works on a 4in narrowed beam without body mods as long as the car has been in no accidents. I've got my car stripped to bare metal and don't see there being any signs of previous body damage and my 4in beam has flat steel plate shock towers but without the towers either going out 1/2in on each side or the body going in 1/2in on each side that beam ain't gonna fit. I also know people are going to say that I don't need shocks, but I'd still rather have them. I did read in a few threads though where people notched their body, but I couldn't find pics to get a better idea of what I needed to do. I'd prefer not to hammer the body in. _________________ Tennessee, Tennessee, ain't no place I'd rather be |

| I got my 4" narrowed beam from CIP1. I did have to use a mallet to get the beam in there, but it was only very slightly. The shock towers do rest on the body, but no harm done. I haven't got any squeaks form metal to metal interference either. |

| Did you build the beam yourself or have it built? If we're only talking a 1/4" needed to make it go in, I would consider "influencing" the towers outward slightly before cutting or modifying the body itself. |

| I bought mine from CIP1. You are correct in that it's only a little bit of "influence" to get it in. Airkewld is the bomb tho. A bit more expensive, but definitely worth the cost. |

I forgot I started this topic until I got to looking at my car today
I bought my beam from a vendor here on thesamba, littlebuggie. It's not close to fitting at all, I would have to modify the body 1/2in inward on both sides to get it in there. _________________ Tennessee, Tennessee, ain't no place I'd rather be |

The body is back off now, getting prepped for paint but, my 4" narrowed beam didn't even come close to touching.
This might be the reason though...

Where did you get those friction shocks Danpa. Those are exactly what I've been looking for, for a buggy project.

I made them at work. Pretty simple, some scrap stainless steel and a few pieces of heavy leather combined with the 3/8 black pipe for the links.
I admit, I have to shorten the levers a little, they barely come in contact with the tie rods when you turn the wheels at full lock.

I dig your friction shock setup. I ran in to the same problems with the tie rods at full lock was too close to the "Push Rod". After fiddling with different length rods and adding my own stops that gave me just fractions more clearance, it all worked out.
