Different hoods/bonnets....

Can anyone tell me which hood/bonnet is from what year? They appear both flat under the VW emblem (like Oval window Beetles), but the inner frames are different from each other.

If it has holes for a hood crest, the white one is 58 through 63. The hood crest continued into the first few months of the 63 model year. I think when they did away with the hood crest they also made the area around the VW emblem raised but I am not 100% sure about that. That detail might have been introduced in 64.

The blue one is oval eara probably 56 thru 57, maybe a little earlier. It does not have the triangular reinforcement under the VW emblem which I think was done away with in 55 or 56.

I would guess the white hood (bonnet) is from a '61 manufactured in calendar year 1960, as it has the 4-tab VW emblem, but no evidence of the glued-on moulding clip boots.

Thanks for all your help guys!
I asked the man who I bought the white bonnet from and he told me that it was from 1960.
So I will use the blue one for my 1956 Oval Beetle.

i have a friend with a zwitter which had an extra bolt hole for the hinges i can not see if the white hood has that if so its early maybe upto 53,54.with the 4 tab mounting its before 1960? i think
p.s. if you use the blue one the stick to meaure gas fits in that hack behind the vw sign.not sure if this is designed to or not but it does
you could also ask in some on with an eary oval or zwitter
