I have a newly installed 2010 version of the Bostig conversion in my syncro. Its run rich since it was installed and im still trying to sort out why.

Heres what's been done so far:
-New PCV valve and hoses
-Run a smoke machine into the intake to check for vacuum leaks. Found one and fixed it.
-New O2 sensor (had a backup anyway)
- New TPS
- New IAC valve
- Checked fuel pressure. All is well...holds at 32 while idling and jumps to 40 with throttle. It also holds pressure for at least 20 minutes after shut down.
- Gas in tank is less than a month old. Was completely drained.
- MAF seems to be working as it should according to the data log. But I have several known good maf sensors and even an extra air box I've have swapped with no change.
-Air filter is new
-Went thru wiring and cleaned/checked every ground
-Verfied correct injectors are being used. Have a separate set of injectors for this motor and swapped them out with no change

to get the van to start I can either wait a day...or else pull the fuse to the fuel pump and crank over. It will start almost immediately with the fuel pump not working. and then I can replace the fuse to start the fuel pump and it will continue running....albeit about 30% rich.
Then after shut down it will not restart unless I repeat the above process.

Me and Jim have exchanged datalogs and tunes...so im still hopeful that will resolve the issue. However the latest tune which reduced fueling by 30% still doesn't seem to make a difference.

I am getting one code...P1289 (CHT sensor signal greater than self test range)
Im gonna order a new CHT sensor and install.

you may have a bad ECT (unless ferd calls them a CHT) sensor.

drop dead cold, key on, what does your coolant temp say on the scanner? usually almost every ECT i have seen fail goes to -60*

cold reading (as in before you start it) should be within a couple of degrees of ambient

could be a fuel pressure/leaky injectors as well

Have you visually checked the injectors? One of 2 things are going on. Either the ECU thinks the engine needs more fuel and is adding it or you may have a leaking injector that is spraying continuously.

You should be able to ohm out the CHT valve and compare it to known values. A cold engine requires more fuel during warm up, so it's possible the CHT could be sending an erroneous value to the ECU.

sure sounds that way, given the behavior is around cold starts and its also setting a code for that senor.
that said if youre exchanging logs and getting custom tunes made id imagine a bunk CTS would be very apparent in the data, so its odd that wasnt brought up...

id probably also pull the plugs real quick in the meantime and confirm there isnt some striking visual difference with one or two plugs from the rest, suggesting an injector issue.

Coolant temp and CHT is within a degree or two of ambient temp when the engine is cold.

I have swapped out the injectors with another set with the same results.

Each of the spark plugs looks the same...covered in black soot from running rich..None seems to be wetter than the other or different.

I don’t have enough knowledge of your conversion to be of much help. If I were working on it I’d try to affect a change.

First I’d disconnect the oxygen sensor and put the ECU into open loop. This will let you see how the engine is really running.

Next step, if you have a graph of the CHT resistance, you could add a fixed resistance so that the ECU thinks the engine is hot.
