I am in northern Alabama and am looking for a reputable engine rebuilder or to buy a reliable crate engine for our 73 bay window. We have not had good luck with the common suppliers found on the internet. We are on our 3rd engine in 9 years.

Can anyone recommend a rebuilder or a reputable supplier or for a 2000cc Type 4 long block? It seems like there are fewer suppliers than there used to be and many of those that remain are not really supplying quality motors. Or if theya re, they have a 12 month lead time.

Any help is appreciated.

if you actually want to use the bus, bite the bullet and go with a Subaru swap

yea, it gets expensive but how much time have you wasted on the T4?

I just did a T4 install (against my better judgement) and it was a 'well known' builder.... the fucker leaked oil the minute it started from multiple places

the cost is staggering for a proper T4 build today.

I'm not saying it can't be done, but the juice isn't worth the squeeze it seems

When I redid the bus engine, the parts and machine shop alone were about 3500, time spent part shopping, or time spent taking apart, cleaning, measuring, checking measurements, and putting it all back together.

if only Laughing

No joke, ask RKW and busdaddy what I want thru with a T4. It is the last one I'll ever touch in that capacity again.

The expectations just can't live up to the labor anymore. I'll be the first to admit it's sad... really sad

My Dad did a engine swap with a Transvair kit on a 68 T2 passenger van. That was a sweet ride with the 69 105hp six in it. Had the automatic transmission in it too. What a pleasure to drive it. Hills? No problem.
