Anybody have one?
I'm looking at a 2005, 3.5 V6.
What are your experiences with late model GM stuff? |

I use a Chevy Express HD2500 Van for work, it has the 6.0 litre engine and is very smooth and powerful, I am usually a Ford man, but I really like this van. _________________ 65 Bus, 72 Bus, 63 bus, 98 Golf, 92 Cabrio, 71 Fasty

Don't have one, but travel for business pretty often and have rented a few. I am usually hard to impress (especially w/American cars), but those things go like a rocket, especially off the line. Not so much left at 70+, and maybe its just the old throttle "tip-in" effect, but off the line, they will really throw you back in the seat for a cheap Chevy... _________________ John Henry

Family Truckster to replace an Audi 90CS that I don't trust any farther than I can push it. |

I borrowed one last year for 2,400 mile round trip and was rather impressed with it. It was a loaded model with leather, heated seats, XM, etc. and believe it had the hopped up V6.
I wouldn't snub that car at all for the comfort and performance it had for a family wagon. |

That was my impression, also.
Quite the opposite of the poor old Audi that at 70 still feels like a JATO
booster just kicked in and starts with the "torque steer". |

i use a 3500 express box van with a 8.0 litre, runs 90 all day long, and drinks as much gas as you can put in it! _________________ 1957 euro oval

I should add though ...
The paddle shifters were a joke on this model.
Leave it in drive and let the automatic do the work. |

| I've got a '06 SS with the 3.9. The extra HP and torque make it feel a little better driving...plenty left at 70. Overall, its been good for the work commute and running kids around. |

My girlfriend has a '98 malibu, with 138k on it, and it is falling apart. None of the windows work, vent fan only works on one speed, large rust spots appearing in odd places, most of the interior parts are broken and/or falling off, the car barely starts anymore(takes 3 trys or more), and once running, slips in and out of gear(while a plume of blue smoke comes out the exhaust).
Soooo....
Heres what I would do:
1: Research and see if GM has upped their quality standards
2: Run quickly away, and buy an import
3: Get one of the big vans mentioned, those are cool.
Good luck, we know you'll make the right decision. _________________ '66 SO-42

| The Maxx is a pretty safe / quality vehicle to buy.....you should be fine. It has nothing to do with a 98 malibu....The Maxx actually is built on the same platform as the Saab 9 3. As far as 66busman, on a 10 year old vehilce.....it wouldn't hurt to fix a few things... I think we even have to do that on imports |

Heres where you're wrong. See, I also drive a '98, but I have a Honda CR-V. Wanna know the worst of the problems I've EVER had from it? The in dash clock quit working. Oh, and it has 173k miles. NO engine problems, NO transmission problems, NO interior crap problems, NO electrical problems, not even rust problems! Its a damn shame that domestic auto makers can't keep up with foreign competitors, it might help our economy.
BTW, its nice to know the Maxx is based on a Saab. I approve of it now _________________ '66 SO-42

| Wrong??..I don't think so...Its however you want to view the topic. I have a 98 Neon with 168,000 and a 01 Durango with 125,000...neither have had any issues. I also know people with imports that have had problems. My Dad had a late 90's civic that lost the cam lobes under 100,000 miles. In todays market, any major auto producer puts out a quality product. That wasn't the case with many of the domestics up to the early 90's. Are some makes better that others.....overall I would say yes. |

Wife has a '01 Malibu (which she insisted on owning, much to my fully expressed dismay). Car had app. 30K on it when purchased. Nice car, fully loaded, leather, CD, power seats, power sunroof. The car has been the biggest POS we've ever owned. Within about 5K of purchase, it's nickled and dimed us to death. Nothing ever major, just stupid shit. Like trim and electrical switches. The one nutsack mash was the 400$ ignition switch that is tied into the onboard security system. Failure of these causes the car not to start. Next was rotors and pads. Next was replacing faulty intake gaskets, and the list keeps going. Stay away from those pieces of shit, weegie. They're a good car for about 2 years, then you're in for perpetual minor repairs. The larger Impala (get the LTZ model with the 3.9 for some fun) is a much more reliable vehicle. _________________ 2%
