Hey, anyone fill me in on the powered brakes? The engine was replaced by some previous owner. I was told it was a ghia engine now a 1835cc. Anyway, the power brakes were never hooked back up. Can anyone help me? Master & servo there with the long hose. Where does it go? I also have dual Kads, I think. If it goes into the stock intake manifolds, I may have a problem. Love the Bus, wife loves the Bus. It's a keeper.... Help me.... |

Hello.
On my 71 the hose goes into the stock manifold just under the carb than around the left side of the engine. I could email a picture if you want?

if there is not a place for the hose o go then you have to.... drill and tap BOTH manifolds below the carbs and conect a hose to each tap location and hook them up to the servo hose. make absolutly certain ther are no air leeks
good luck |

Check to see if you have a one way vacum valve installed in the line. It will keep a back fire from knocking out the servo. |

I had a '71 bus with kadrons. Then motor came out of a bug so there was no where to attatch the brake vaccum line. I ended up buying a "T" fitting and installing it on the balance tube the goes between the two intake manifolds, because I wasn't too keen on drilling the manifolds. This ste up worked great. Good luck. |

Orangebug, Do not worry, you will be able to draw a vaccum from what ever manifolds you may have. The best way is to drill and tap the manifold and put a nice nipple in there. Hook up the air line that comes strait from the master cylinder, and be prepared to stop on a dime! I put a engine in my 71 Westy recently, I had a machine shop drill, tap and install a nipple in one of the manifolds, it works perfect! As a matter of fact I drove past your exit on 31 in my bus many times this summer, on my way to the dunes! I am the dude that bought that thing roll bar from you, I am very happy with it! thank you much! Chris |
