The electric I built for myself. The body is purple heart with zebra wood and maple stringers up the middle. The neck I bought pre-made, Fender head stock but fretted on the shorter Gibson scale. Double coil Seymour Duncan with volume control only and a Floyd Rose tremolo. The Guild is a D-50 I received for my birthday in 1975.

Those are one inch square pieces that I laminated and staggered. I then sent the whole mass through a surface planer at a 45 degree angle to achieve the diamond shape.

I looked into it, but unfortunately they only make one for the old 4-hole style bridges. Fender weirded mine up with a 3 hole that doesn't match up with anything made for a telecaster. Looks like this sucker might end up under the knife...
Thanks! It's a slow little project of finding cool bits and pieces to add on.

Anyhow, here's a little music video my friend Aaron made for a recording my farmer friend/boss Mark Dunau, his son Bera, and I recorded in his barn last winter. A few more folks added on the bass and drums, and vuala! We had a song. I used my G&L through a Peavy Classic 30, a nice little combo.

It's a goofy little song, but I love it none the less!

I just got a new guitar to play with! It's a Framus Riviera built in may of 1965. I just had to show it off! I'm going to make a new pickgaurd for it (so as not to hack up the beautiful transparent tortiseshell one on it) and mount a pickup on it.

The original dealer who sold it in France! I looked up the adress and it's now a glasses shop Laughing

That Riviera is cool - I always had a softspot for unusual thinlines myself. 335s are so....common. I used to have a Guild Starfire "slim jim" I think it was a T100DP from the early 60s. Really sounded great for jazz and blues. Sold it before I knew better Brick wall

I'm confused why this is considered a thinline though, because it has no pickups? Aren't thinlines generally semi-hollow with pickups?

A "thinline" would be a shallow depth acoustic or semi acoustic - Pickups have nothing to do with it. At least that's how I always figure it. But then, I may be wrong......

Sweet Framus, Levi!

Here's my somewhat newly acquired J-45, 'tis a 1961. The pickguard has been changed, the bridge swapped, and the sunburst finish faded to near non existence, but damn - it sounds and plays great.

Anyone have one of the VW guitars they were selling as a dealer option around 2000ish? I think the cars were supposed to have the radio double as an amp.

I almost bought one at an auction but backed out because I can't really play the guitar I already have. I believe it went for ~$100 a few years ago. After the auction I checked ebay and NOS ones were selling for about that much.
I assume they weren't that good a just more of a VW collectors item.

A thinline guitar has pickups. They are most often semi hollow but sometimes fully hollow. The Fender Thinline Tele and Gibson ES 335 are prime examples. The Riviera pictured above would be referred to as an archtop acoustic. Add pickups and it's an archtop electric. Reduce the body depth and you get thinline. Also, "semi acoustic" is usually referred to as hollowbody electric. There's acoustic, acoustic-electric, hollowbody electric, and solidbody electric. Gets confusing but there are key differences between them.
