I didn't take pictures (I sure wish I had) when I took my drivers side window apart about a couple of years ago, but will I try to describe what I ended up doing...
...it took me a while to get it right.
It has been working great ever since.
I hope this helps. |
Thanks man... very comprehensive account. I hope so too.
But before I start taking things apart...
Are their any other threads that may have this written up? Should I go through the whole picture taking and posting process for this?
I don't really spend the extra time on this if this has already been addressed and posted, although I couldn't find what I was looking for.
Thanks guys. _________________

My passeger side power window is broken as well. I've looked around for a replacement motor- anyone know where I can get one?
thanks,

Ashley at Always VDub in SE PDX hooked me up with a used motor for my drivers side when it died. Cost @ $100 bucks installed and is still going. _________________ Happiness=Portland, Oregon in the rearview mirror! |

Love my power-everything van. My van has every option, even working cruise control and I think it's worth the effort to keep it working that way.
But I have to admit that I have spent a lot of time and money (more time and effort than money) keeping everything working. Just replaced my window regulator, opened the power window switches and cleaned the crusty contacts, then had a hell of a time getting the switches back together correctly. Now my perfect air conditioning leaked its refrigirant out of the low side port. It's always something . . . _________________ 1990 GL 7-passenger

See, I can use the search functions.
For the last few months, I have been driving my 87' daily... and when rolling up the passenger's side power window I've noticed that there appears to be a single "tick" at about 3/4's of the way up. This has been inconsistant and has been happening for about four months now.
Flash forward to today..
..well this morning, while on a routine Wal-Mart run, the window hit the 3/4 mark and there was the "tick" again.... and then a "POP" and the window fell down into the door.
I just went to check to see if the motor works; and it does.
Before I go tearing into the door, would anyone care to offer a diagnosis? Better yet, a remedy?
Did I break a cord of some kind... if so can they be replaced? Has anyone had this happen before?
Any experiences will be appreciated...
Thanks |
I think I should have started a new thread...
I am trying to keep the windows, power windows. I just needed to fix it before the neighbor's cat gets in there.. and I was looking to find out if there has already been a thread posted about this problem. I couldn't find one when I searched, this one here was the closest that came up in my search. If not, then perhaps I will start one. If there already is, then I won't waist my time on documentation.

I fixed it.
I will post pictures of what I did later.
But thanks danagain, and you were right, that spool/cable was super TIGHT! Thanks for the heads-up, I would have thought that it wasn't in there right if you had not mentioned that. _________________
