On my way home tonight, the lady in the center lane decided she needed to make a right turn. Unfortunately, I was in the right lane.
It all happened right in front of a police officer, so at least there was a good witness.
The headache begins Monday with the insurance adjuster. It was a COunty vehicle that hit me, hopefully they wont red-tape me to death. _________________ Eric

ouch, although it looks like its all body metal, the pillars fine? good luck with the repairs. its intersting to note that my bus has bondo slowly turning up in all the exact ares yours has damage, its like my bus is yours from the future, only with poor bondo work instead of the extensive shrinking and expert lead work you plan on using, right?
seriously tho, bummer about the damage, but atleast your not at fault and with decent proof of such. Good luck with repairs, and welcome to the club of VWs w/o front side markers. That tan line is never attractive, I have a matching set _________________ [email protected]

Damn that sucks, hope things go well on monday, looks like the door post is bent at the bottom, don't forget to consider hidden damage like a bent brake pedal or damaged brake system from that superman moment you had as she was hitting you (I'm not kidding, I've seen it happen). _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Ouch! Real sorry that happened Eric. And we're in the best bussing season now. Bummer. About 5 months ago you just got the back end worked out. Hope you end up with quality workmanship.
You will probably need a complete paint job after the new metal work. We know that painting up to the masked window seals isn't good as the seals in the desert shrink in time, leaving an ugly and vunerable paint edge. So maybe you can convince them that you need all the glass removed for painting and NEW seals.
Please keep us updated on how the whole process goes. _________________ 71 Superbug

Man Eric that sucks. Do you think they will total it? I know a lot of insurance companies don't like to repair the older vehicles.
You can get the stripes reproduced at a graphics shop. My wife used to design and install them 7 years ago, she estimates that it will cost at least a grand. _________________ "I became an archaeologist because I wanted to drive around in a big Land Rover, smoking, cursing, and finding treasure." - Carmel Schrire

as the person above stated, you could get them reproduced. just measure them and take LOTS of pictures.
you could do the same thing but instead of stickers have them painted on when you repaint. _________________ "...theres nowhere to go but everywhere." - Kerouac

Sorry man.. that's a real bummer.
Let us know what happens.
It they start giving you grief, tell them, "Ya know, my neck is starting to throb.. and my left knee feels like it may have been tweaked. Now what did you say about totalling my bus for 4 thousand?" _________________ Owner of: "The Party Pickle" (a 1979 2 Liter FI "Raby Camper Special" Sage Green Westy Campmobile) & "Charlie Brown" (a 1979 2 Liter FI "Rob Grant Rebuild" Agate Brown/Dakota Beige Station Wagon)

we all feel your pain, son and i hope they bring it back to where it was. in my neck of the woods (public insurance) unless you had special insurance it would be written off right now and not a thing you can do about it. it's gotta be damned expensive repairing these old rides of ours. |

At least you didn't have a whole family in there right? As much as i love my bus, i'll sacrifice her for my friends and loved ones...
The world is a cruel place, and it always makes me sad to see a piece of history erased because they don't want to spend a little to preserve it...
I'll go fill up my tank today and go drive around for you since you can't. Maybe the special connection our buses have with each other will keep your bus on the road. _________________ 1972 Deluxe named Lucidity

I can't imagine how terrifying that was to experience. I had my nephew in the passenger seat one day when someone in the on-comming lanes decided to turn left. Makes you realize real quick how much bus is between you and the outside!
Good luck Eric, this should be a good write up on what folks need to do when dealing with insurance slimeballs. _________________ Los Alamos Nat'l Labs weapons rock. Lawrence Livermore weapons SUCK!
