Will a Porsche engine fit in a Splitty if so what are the disadvantages vs advantages? I would assume you can get a lot more horse power but the repairs may be expensive.
Thanks,
Linda

Which Porsche engine? 356/912, 911, 930 or other?

If you're thinking 356/912, you'll get more power and cheaper cost from a modified Type 1 engine.

i used to run a 356 super 90 in my 55 standard bus,it hauled ass but it would get hot on a long say 20 mile stretch, yrs later in the 356 registry magazine it was found that dealers actually did install 356 engines in buses, ghias, bugs.
for the bus it said in order to keep temps reasonable in a bus the dealer was instructed to cut and extra 11" x 8" hole on each side in the rear corners, funny to think that they would actually recommend such a hack, but then they were just work trucks/vans.
my advice is to use a vw motor,my personal advice is to stay with a 1600 properly balanced and use kadrons or actually the best seems to be double barrel 36 dellorto's,ive built a few this way, they rock plus you dont have as much of the "grenade" effects the bigbore motors have.

Hot hot hot videos I want to do that too. It appears they have to cut out some of the lower body to fit the 911 right? I really like it but won't it be expensive to keep serviced, parts are expensive right?
Thanks again,
Linda

Good tip but will I get the power I need from a 1600? Also why would I want double carbs do I get more power? I love that 911 sound any way I can get that from a 1600?

Linda,

Dont take this the wrong way, but your lurk to post ratio should be much, much higher in the opposite direction than what it is.

I suggest you follow along, then research using the search button. You will find your education process will be much more effective than your current approach.

nice buzzkill derv, maybe shes just new to the scene and excited to get her vision of what she wants.
that said derv does make a good point,i just hate the way he tries to alienate you and make you look/feel stupid, linda be careful to only take these postings on the forums with a grain of salt.

the 911 engine is just ridiculous, your getting into some fairly serious hacks, the 1600 balanced with dual barrel 36 dells will be all the power you will need, the carbs make a very cool "sucking/chirping" noise when you accelarate.

it comes down to what you want,do you want a "race bus" or a bus that can easily keep up with todays traffic and not get rearended going up a hill?

What Derv was getting at is that while many questions are asked from this particular person, all the answers she seeks are easily located using the search function. Most of the recent round of questions are answered by using common sense and a "no-hack" approach.

Linda, you seem like a nice person and very excited to have your bus. We can all relate. I also admire that you're a welder. Cool That said, derv is right; all of your recent questions have been asked and answered before. Smile

No offence taken, I just want to learn. And I’m still new to this site. I still feel welcome to the site.

I didn't know there was a search engine in the topic area too.

So what is a new post used for? And what is a hack, I know what a hacker is on a computer but I never heard of a hack on a list.

BTW Probably if I were 20 years younger I wouldn’t be back but life is too short to not get to where you want to go. So I’m staying Smile

Smile

A hack is what some refer to as any non-factory or non-dealer made material modification to a stock bus. For example, your proposed engine access cover would be considered a "hack."

I always thought "hack" was in reference to using a hack saw to make it fit.

A hack is whenever you decide to cut into your previously unmolested bus.

It is generally considered as a bad thing, and it will devalue your bus. Non-hacked buses are much harder to find than hacked buses.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Appreciate your bus for what it is. If you find you don't like it the way it is, maybe it's not for you.

Wow, this site has everything. From the dictionary section:

"Hack Job: Slang. Poorly done bodywork, often by an inexperienced, untrained, or foolish owner. Usually involves cutting of some sort, often on the dashboard, wheel wells, or air vents."

You make a new post if you search, but still can't find what you're looking for. If you stick around and just kinda watch for a while, you'll see what the new posts usually are.

Thanks Andrew,
And you are right I'm on the search now and I don't see everything I'm looking for. I'll stick around.

I added Bunny to my signature for world domination too!.

As far as info that can be found with a search, by now there really is very few topics that have not already been discussed. When you are a so called newbie you will be chastised by many of the long timers on here because it seems they are easily annoyed by questions they feel have been asked too many times in the past. Be patient and remember this is a forum for vdubbers old and new. Don't get too discouraged by some of the oe nazi's on here. There are a lot of really good and helpful folks on here. Most importantly, enjoy your vw how ever you decide to roll it.
