|
|
Registry information on over 2,200 pre-oval period vehicles is now available here on the samba.
To access the database see:
Access to the Registry
As I mention below, you will need to scroll down to go to the different tabs. Right now, you will go directly to the Hoffmann tab.
In the attached link, you will find information about these cars that have been complied over many years by many different people. Some of the information is I am sure dated. If you have updates to this information, you are welcome to resubmit the information so it can be updated. If your car is not shown or it needs updated, you can use the following link to fill out the information:
Fill Out Registry Information Here
At a minimum, I need the chassis number and type of car it is (11C, 11G, etc.) Would also like to have the original engine number, the body number, the original color, where it is currently located, date produced, date delivered, where it was delivered and whether you are OK with me posting your name and email address on the registry.
Also included is a separate tab for cars sold in the U.S. through Hoffman Motors. For more information see:
Hoffmann Information
There are also separate tabs for Hebmullers and pre 57 convertibles. I will also be adding barndoor busses, lowlight ghias, and other coach built cars.
A special thanks to Everett for hosting this information on the Samba! _________________ Kevin "Wiggy"

Nice, I just sent off my info to be added.
I know there is a Hoffman topic, but how do i know if i have a Hoff car. i thought all cars inported up to Late '52 were Hoff cars.

That's a great registry. The neat thing is I see a car which was delivered to the Berlin transportgruppe May 29 of '43; and I have an engine in my shop out of another type 60 which was delivered to Berlin the same day (I assume the car that went to my engine is long gone).
great work!

Mine is not listed ('52 11G), so I sent my information a while ago; hasn't made it onto the database yet, guess I'll check another time.

I will be updating the data over the next two weeks or so. Thanks to everyone who has contributed. I've added probably 40+ cars in the past month. _________________ Kevin "Wiggy"

Fine registry but I didn't get it out with a Firefox.
Because of 1952 Helsinki Olympic games there were over two thousand 51 and 52 splits sold to Finland to get a modern look to our muddy or dusty roads. After games the life became normal and 53 models registered just a handful.
While looking the registry, it seems many of those olympic splits survived up to this day, but definitely they have gone out somewere.
Later during fifties there were plenty of second hand imported VW:s by sailors. It was hard to get a license to buy a Westen car locally, but people like sailors had for some reasons allowed to import a private second hand vehicle and sell it forward. It was propably good busines for many, as there were long lists specially for VW:s.
Situation today is different and we certainly keep all original remaining splits here! My guess is that approximately 30 - 40 splits could be found but something like 20 are runners on the road. |

I just got my 1st split. Im confused. The title says 1951 but I was looking at the production #'s and my numbers fall under 52?
Chassis 1-0320301
Body 263 293
Baujahr (year of production) 19 52
The vin on the title matches but is listed as a 51. Can anyone verify what year and month car this is. _________________ My 62 RHD Vert

Its a January 52 car.
My car is actually the same way. The title is just wrong. Not a big deal. But definitely a 52. _________________ Kevin "Wiggy"
