I put my (finally found) Jackman wheels on my thing.
my thing is 95% offroad and 5% street use.

rear tires stick out like 3.5" and rub the fenders.
no problem driving on the street but as mentioned 95% offroad use.
each large bump can damage my rear fenders.

running 7" rims with 31 X 10.5 X 15 MickeyThompson Baja Terrain.

the thing is lifted 3" & afraid further lift requires 930CVs.

what tire size other thing owner running on their beloved thing?

Take the rear fenders off, it's not hard, it looks weird but since no one's going to see it... Those look like nice tires, keep them!

Or, replace them with the extra-wide rear fiberglass fenders that the Thing Shop offers:

Thanks all for very good suggestions.

large rear tires will not help maneuver the tight rocky desert terrains.
already bent few rims on my baja bug.

I'm thinking about 7LT all the way around.
skinny tires & real tall side wall which usually use on front of the thing.
anybody tried this set up?

Have you checked out this Thing sticky?
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=279367

There are links to lots of posts dealing with larger tires, rubbing, clearance issues, etc. Check it out, it should be pretty helpful.

Thanks Fun 181, very helpful information.

I have 4 X 1973 Things in the desert house. two yellow running & two orange
which one is good restoration candidate & other orange one will be cut up
as a spare parts.my ultimate goal will be 1 wild offroad, 1 mild offroad &
1 complete restoration to an original condition.
