Looking for new shocks for the 1986 2wd vanagon

considering KYB (good price) but heard Boge is maybe better because it is OEM. the Boge I dont think is gas charged, the KYB's are.

Are there any folks with experiences with either type, and can you please comment on how they like them or not, ride quality?

KYBs are low quality and I'm being kind.
Boge is better.
Konis are best.

I have had decent results with them on different cars but they are horrid on vanagons.

i got the odd 4 kyb's that have actually been great/reliable, no telling how old though- aint new. they were on the van when i got it and are perfect for me. they might be a tad soft for fast road driving but for me they strike a good balance between on and off road comfort. i drive my van briskly on the road and on some pretty rough terrain off. i need more ground clearance but am wary of upsetting the supple firmness of the suspension by the requisite shock absorber change that raising brings.

I've been happy with my Bilstein HD, but if I did it again, I would give the Koni a try cause they are adjustable.
