I have a 1500cc engine in my bug
http:/uhaweb.hartford.edu/majohnson/beetleproject.swf
and I have one sitting in my garage that I think is a 1600cc How much would it cost me to rebuild a single port 1600cc? What should I do. I dont want to get my car done and painted and then have something happen to me while driving it to and from school. Any ideas on how much it would cost for myself to do it and it would be my first engine overhaul and how much would it pay for a mechanic to do it how long will it take??? |

| Assumming all of the mechanicals can be re-used and you just need to replace seals and things, probably a couple of hundred bucks and some books. If you add the carb to that, exhuast, etc. then maybe a few hundred more than that. If you take it to a shop labor is from $60 to $85. Probably over $1,200 easily. To go from a 1600 to 1776 + rebuild it was like $1,600 for me. |

| I was n the same situation. 1600 sitting for years. Rebuild SP heads, $80 complete. New stock P/C, ~$100. My case was ok and only needed boring to .10, and clean-up, ~$60. New bearings & lifters, push rod tubes, etc. Had a shop build the longblock. Total cost, $990. |

| I guess it depends on where you are. I've got a guy down here in Miss. who does it for $750. I did it myself for around $400, but I had acess to some fancy expensive tools. |
