I'm still having problems with my car suddenly cutting out for no reason then 2 mins later starts and runs again Ok
I have replaced just about everything but not done the fuel pump so bought a service kit and stripped it. Looked quite good inside but found 1 spring missing on the inlet rubber seal . I am assuming there are 2 springs one for each seal as there were 2 springs in the kit
Took for a run for 4 miles great but then it stopped and I could not re start it at all this time
Towed home and took the pipe out of the carb and cranked over . Nothing coming out of the pipe ?
Took the top off the pump while in situ as I wondered if the diaphragm had come disconnected? All ok
Took pipe off the inlet to pump and it pours out so no flow restriction from the tank
Please help- getting fed up now dare not go any distance anywhere! |

Make sure the pump has been put back together right. The valve discs in the rebuild kits are not that good, I always use the old ones but with new springs. Is there an in line filter before the pump? If not there could be grit or dirt stopping the valves from seating. Have you pre loaded the diaphragm? If not it needs pre loading 35mm before screwing down the pump top. |

Hi I have assembled the pump on the car with the top off so I can see what movement there was. The amount of up and down movement was hardly noticeable at all!
So I took
the spacer out to see how gaskets were there and I counted 7 of them in total either side of the packer, so I removed 5 of them and left just one either side
Retried the movement and this time it was quite significant. Reassembled and started up in a couple of seconds so I am hoping I have found part of the problem and hopefully it won't close down o me again! |

The reason for the amount of gaskets is because the pump body is probably bent where it faces the plastic spacer/guide. Over time it gets pounded out and bends the body to the extent where oil leaks from the joint. This will now start happening. Take the pump off and put a straight edge over the face and see what I mean. I’ve just milled one flat myself for the same reason. The push rod will have to be shortened slightly to compensate or the fuel pressure will be too high. |

Make sure your fuel valve is turned on before taking your entire fuel system apart. Your symptoms sound just your gas is shut off at the tank. _________________ Thanks,
