Hi guys what would cause the turn signals on my 70 Beetle not to work?, but yet the hazards do work. Could it be the turn signal switch? The hazard switch seems to work fine and all 4 flashers work like they are supposed to. Thanks for help _________________ 1963 Ragtop Bug

Different parts of the flasher are involved, even though the same lights are used.
You need to use a 12 volt test light or voltmeter to check to see if voltage is getting to the turn signal switch with key "on" (the test light should flash like a turn signal). The turn signal switch merely routes the voltage to either the left or right side, you could test that if you get voltage to the switch by moving the lever with key "on". Did both sides go out at once, what is the history? _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. Thanks Cusser for the info. Yes a few weeks ago they worked fine until I found out this week they stopped working all of a sudden. Do I need to take the turn signal switch out to access the wire in order to test it with the test light or can I track it down in the trunk by the column? thx _________________ 1963 Ragtop Bug

You can start by testing the signal on the dash side. I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the wire from the switch where it connects into one of the plastci splices. It had wiggled lose but was still in there. No contact resulted in my problem. Check all the connections, even to the point of sliding them off and then back on a couple of times...start with the easy stuff then work your way into the surgery of dismantling the car. _________________ -—--------—-------
