OK. I've put together my first stroker motor (with really good parts I might add....thanks Samba) and I have a few questions. Below are the specs and the questions:
Specs:
82 x 94 x 5.7" H-Beams. Scat case, Scat 1.4 rockers, CB Street Eliminators, FK89 Cam, etc. With all this, the motor is about 3/4" wider than stock. I had to have long barrels cut to .360" longer than stock.
Questions:
1) What does everybody do for exhaust with the wider motor. I assume I'm going to have to mod my header. Have an aluminum header for turbo setup and now it's too narrow.
2) What does everybody do for Hex-bar linkage. I can adjust the ball screws all the way out and get it to work, but I don't like it.
3) What about CB heads. The "J" pipes are positioned over the valve cover. Do I have to rotate the flanges to get them in the right spot.
4) Engine tins - Obviously the fan shroud doesn't fit the tins on the top of the head. I can add spacers, but I wanted to see what everybody else does.
5) Push rod Tubes - Same problem - Motor is wider so crush tubes wont work. I assume I need adjustable, but I really don't like the spring loaded. Had them leak too much in the past. Really need suggestions based on experience here.
Don't give me too much grief. I'm new at this but I'm really excited about this motor. It went together really well so far.
I appreciate the feedback. |

1) Most headers have slip joints so they can be adjusted for the width. If it's a turbo, then you need to weld the joints after the engine is mocked up.
2) Use a Berg Fan mount and the extra width won't be a problem.
3) My Berg 1-5/8" header fits will all the stock tin.
4)You'll have to fabricate extensions to the tins and "make" them fit.
5) Just expand them to make them fit. _________________ Glenn

On my 84 x 94:
1. Slip-joint Bugpack header...adjust to any width motor.
2. CB Hex linkage...lots of adjustment range to fit additional width.
3. My CB 044 heads fit fine with both EMPI 1 5/8" and Bugpack 1 3/4" headers.
4. My doghouse shroud still fit, although there is a 1/4" gap where the cylinder tin meets the center (top) of the case...plug it with silicone.
5. I have spring-loaded EMPI high lift pushrod tubes...once they're installed (which takes some prep) they adjust fine:
This is with the 1 3/4" Bugpack header

On my 2276 I went with stock length rods and with the flycutting on the heads i'm about 7/16" narrower than a stock 1600 DP.
What year car are you putting this in? Wide motors really become a tight fit in 1961 and earlier cars. _________________ Eric Allred

My 2180 is using 5.4" rods and is .250" wider than stock. _________________ Glenn
