I have just gotten done installing my VDO tach in my 79 california bus. I have working lights and the guage will not go over 1000 rpms. I also have some wiring questions, where in the fuse panel do I run the wire from my tach. Also does the different type of ignition coil needed for the california EFI make a difference. |

The 79CA coil is no problem.
Make sure your tach wire is hooked up to the "-" or "1" side of the coil, that the little dip switches are set correctly for both electonic ignition and 4 cylinders, and that you have the Radio Shack diode #1N4005 attached to the wire going from the coil.

My tach is doing the same thing. Checked the dip switchs, have a diode in place but tach is way way off. Any helpful ideas? _________________ "I reject your reality and replace it with my own"

What happens if you remove the diode (thinking that it might be on backwards)?
It should work even though it might dance around a bit. |

On my VDO tach the dip switches were installed upside down, I had to rotate the tach 180 to set the dip switches properly. Might double check the dip switches. |
