ok, i have an alternator. for some reason the gen light has came on. the alternator is brand new and was working right day before yesterday. what could be the problem? ive tried everythng i could think of so far, i removed the battery cable to see if the alternator is giving a charge and the engine dies. i removed the wire going to the idiot light, and it stays on. so i think there's a short somewhere (am i right about this?) and the alternator has an internal Voltage regulator but i also have the original VR underneath the back seat. will this cause any problems?

Yes. You need to remove the regulator under the seat. The three red wires go together. Then the blue and green go together. The brown can be taped off, it is not needed. Hopefully you did not fry your new alt by running it with the other regulator in there.

No problem, thats why we're here. Glad you got it all worked out. Just make sure the wires stay together. I ended up using a car audio distribution block to connect them. Eventually I'll replace the wiring with continuous runs.
