is it possible to use a front sway bar from a 64-67 beam on an 55-63 beam? _________________ WANTED:

I don't know but can tell you it will be well worth the effort!
The Dormy's disc brake fatchick beam has that weak half inch bar on it. It broke on me once and after getting all squarely in an on-ramp, I went straight to the wrecking yard to get a replacement!
I wish I could get a thicker heavy duty one as it will make it more stable even! _________________ Some people are so busy being clever they don't have time enough to be wise. |

1966 and 1967 stock nazi. EMPI makes aftermarket ones. it cost me $29 for clamps from wolfsburg west (211 498 101 part number) i am going to mount it on my 1965 panel/camper. not sure about earlier beams tho'.. check EMPI catalog. _________________ Admin note: Bill Passed away - July, 2017

i was hoping this would be a bolt-on thing that i could use all the hardware from a spare stock swaybar i have. i'm suprised i have not seen the idea mentioned before, unless the beam mounting area on the beams is slightly different. i haven't really noticed a difference, but it's certiently possible. _________________ WANTED:

my sway bar is a stock 66/67 one. i did not have the mounting clamps or anything. just the sway bar. now i have new clamps and can mount it on my 65. you may have to hold it up to 63 and older to see if trailing arms are same distance apart and same diameter. _________________ Admin note: Bill Passed away - July, 2017

| I would so love to have a stiffer front sway bar for my 69 front end. Hell I would love to have a rear sway. |

I bolted a '67 sway bar onto my '61 front end. it bolts up fine.
the bar only touches the trailing arms, not the main part of the beam.
I actually pulled the sway bar off of a junk front end because someone had a wanted ad up for one. they never responded to my $75 price so I just installed it onto my bus. I am glad now that they didn't get back to me, because the sway bar really makes a noticeable difference in the handling of the bus around corners. I am planning on putting sway bars onto most of my buses now. _________________ .

got the sway bar on my 61; there is a noticible improvement around the corners. kinda a bitch to get on and off, that's for sure. _________________ WANTED:

| I don't think they make a sway bar for any narrowed beams, my beam is narrowed 4" and I still have noticeable body roll going around corners. I'm now getting a new beam (non narrowed) and hopefully a swaybar aswell. |

This has been discussed before if you want to do a search on the subject.
AFAIK, there are no narrowed sway bars.
It would not be a big deal to cut 4 " out of a sway bar and weld it back together. One would want to do a superior welding job on it though I think (root, fill, cap).
Although it is spring steel, the attributes of the spring steel would only be compromised in the heat affected region, so it should still work pretty well I would think.
There is also the feature of narrower bar so stiffer response, same effect as narrowing torsion leaves, but it should still work fine.
Someone needs to try this out and report back. _________________ The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance, but the illusion of knowledge

I didn't want to start a new thread so here it goes:
Can I make a stock baywindow swaybar fit on my 60 stock width beam? It seems like baywindow shit is easier to find in junkyards/classifieds. My beam has chunky lower control arms, if that might make it better or worse. thanks. |

I'm assuming that the sway bar doesn't make much difference on a single cab because of the lower center of gravity? _________________ © CJ Industries, Inc.

So I've got a sway bar and a new rubber mounting kit, but I'm concerned about bolting it up. The buses I'm using for reference have little metal bands with pinch bolts holding the end of the swaybar onto the contol arm. The bay buses at the shop just use a bolt and a nut.
I'm assuming that I need these clamps to properly secure the swaybar, correct? Just using the rubber mounts seems like a bad idea to me... |

Just got a front sway bar and camber compensator from Empi after reading this thread...
My question is.. since my 64 DC didn't have a sway bar, I don't have the two clamps for the end of the bar. I'm not talking about the bushing and clamp, it's the pinch clamp on the very end. I looked on WW's site and they don't show them... any ideas where I can purchase a set? Or are they a 'salvage yard only' item... in which case I'm in BIG trouble....
Thanks!
