Hi guys, I just returned from inspecting the 74 beetle and have loaded the photos onto my photobucket account.
Thanks to those who replied and for those who read.
here is the link to the photos.
Check out the body work and especially the chassis head lower plate...
Man, what some people call mint.
It looked good walking up to it, starting from the back underside was looking pretty good...........he put it up on the hoist and well.......you decide.
His asking price is $5500.00.
Boys, this Brilliant orange 74 standard I still have sitting in my garage is looking better and better with time.
Anywhooo.
Please take a look and let er all out.

Some of those pics are so close I'm not even sure what I'm looking at
The car isn't bad, but its priced too high. I think it's leaps above the orange one in terms of rot though.
Have you seen the '57 yet? _________________ 1973 Volkswagen Beetle never ending project |

Hey, thanks for replying.
You know what?, I was thinking the exact opposite.
The head on the green one was absolutly toasted and the floors on the inside had as much rusty scale as the orange one.
The orange on really only has rot in the body metal AT the chassis head where the head is bitched on the green one.
Too many hands have been on the green one I think.
The orange one is actually as original as can be......so it seems.
Both bodies would have to come off and from what saw........as nice as the pans are under the green one, they still need replacing already.....as does the orange one.
The orange one is miles better in the engine compartment as well as under the hood.
Can I ask what turns you off the orange one?........the one thing about the orange one is that nothing is hidden with goopy globs or undercoating super think in the rusty areas?
I emailed the owner a list of questions I would like him to answer as well as requsting a few digital pics.
He has not yet replied and I`m expected to be there tomorrow but if he doesn`t respond, I may not spend the hours involved.
I will definately go if he replies/
Thanks again.

What turns me off of the orange one in a hurry is that he wants $7-8k for it. I'll admit the green one may be hiding stuff under the undercoating, and some pieces of welded metal look out of place, but I can't tell much from the pics. They are too out of place for me. The heater channel on the orange one is bad enough for me to pass on the car... if I'm going to spend over $3k on a car that needs major work (floors, heater channel, etc) it needs to be more rare than a super or '74 beetle. I'd pass on both. To me it seems like you are just trying to get a bug instead of looking for THE bug. Keep looking... I don't think you have found the right car for you yet. Both of them are fresh coats of paint on a project frame.
Go look at the '57 either way, the more you look at the better. _________________ 1973 Volkswagen Beetle never ending project |

Looking at your photobucket of the orange car I think I may be confusing it with another one... did this one have heater channel rot on the interior?
BTW, I'll take some ribs... _________________ 1973 Volkswagen Beetle never ending project |

Yes, the orange one is the one with the heater channel rot near the left foot well......right where it meets the chassis head.
.....ribs you say?
Coming right up.
