I count 68 in that photo angle alone. Seems like there are more out of the picture.
There have been a few postings about this place on the Full Moon Bus Club site. Seems like the word is that the guy is not interested in selling parts or complete vans. Not sure what he plans to do with them. Maybe he's looking to corner the market on Vanagons for that coming "living in a van down by the river" rush that's going to take place because of the financial crisis.
Picture the evil genuis sitting in his shop, drumming his fingers, saying:
"Bwahahahaha, they will all be coming to me, begging for my vans soon, my little pretties."

Quick, contact the city elders and inform them of the blight and immanent environmental disaster from that "junk." Although, I am sure they are aware of it. Wouldn't be the first time a really cool stash was made to liquidate. There are MANY examples, two of which come to mind: Tri-Star Pete and Aase Brothers....sigh....
Dang, though, that IS an impressive sight, though. _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

I know of a similar person in Michigan, only this guy has a thing for old mustangs. He used to own a very popular truck-stop on a major highway. Through the 60's and 70's when Mustangs would break down on the highway, after a period of time they would be towed to the truck-stop where he would put a "mechanic's lien" on them. If nobody came to pay the towing and claim the car, he would take possession and bring the car home.
Over time he accumulated probably 100 late 60's early 70's mustangs, including several Shelbys. All just moved into his barn and parked, left exactly the way they were when they were left at the roadside. Unfortunatly, at some point years later the roof on his barn collapsed and basically crushed the entire collection.
To this day the guy is extremely secretive of his collection and will not sell any of the cars or the parts, he'll actually only accept TRADES. I saw the guy's collection when I was a kid when my dad needed some parts for one of his cars. He had to bring the collector some bizarre mustang part and the guy gave him a NOS part that he needed for his car. It was extremely strange. |

Man, if I could get in contact with that guy. He must have a spare slider door handle among that mass of German steel.
When the economy goes down the tubes, he could arrange them and make a high class Hooverville of sorts. _________________ '84 Vanagon w/ Subaru 2.2 Swap

A while back someone posted soemthign similarly about a Vanagon graveyard somewhere in either Washington or Oregon. Same deal, though, as I remember it - a yard full of Vanagons and a coot unwilling to part with them.
Or has this place been reported before? _________________ 1986 Westy 2WD auto a.k.a. "The Old Girl"

Come on!!! It would take a lifetime to restore all of those and a lot of cash. Why not sell each for $1000 and walk away with $68000 and go buy a restored or perfect original and do some other sort of tinkering. This is the kind of stuff I dream about while sleeping, and I think I am sick!!! _________________ 86 Syncro Wolfsburg edition

Moab, UT?
Just drove by it yesterday. Should have taken a pic. About 40 70's era busses, squarebacks and (Round-backs?), only about 15 vanagons, but one was a Westy Syncro.
Almost went into oncoming traffic rubbernecking. |

turns out that's right along the way for my annual pilgramige back to upstate NY for the holidays...
now if someone has some solid directions or address, i'd love to drop by and strike up a conversation with the owner
hell, once i get my westy back on the road with the CS engine, that might worth a weekend trip, its only about 200 miles from me
like they say about chicken soup...
