I have a general question about a noise coming from the base of my shift lever, in my '67. It shifts as nice as I could ask 95 per cent of the time. Once in a while, there is a noise coming from the base of the shifter when shifting to 3rd from either 2nd or 4th. It is sort of a cross between a crunch and a click, and seems to have no effect on the actual shifting process. And, it is quite clearly coming from the vicinity of the shifter base.

My thoughts are either the cup on the shift rod needs grease, the spring may have seen better days, or something's loose in the tunnel and once in a while getting in the way (least likely in my view). Has anyone had a similar experience? Thanks,

Jim

Maybe your shift rod bushing is about to ruin your day.

Well, I hope to find out this weekend, do a little exploration. Other than this, it's run about as well as anything I've ever owned.
