|
|
I picked up a 74 SB today (more on that later) and it has the optional wheels that were available on this car when new. I'm missing two of the small plastic center caps. It'd be nice to find a pair but these may be made out of unobtanium. Anyone ever see these around?
Thanks Tim

They're called "Superior Turtleback Wheels."
Search in the classifieds here and on eBay for the missing center caps. _________________ I have learned over the years.

These rims were official VW of America accessories, installed by VW dealers and not at the factory. Here's the 1972 Accessories brochure with this style.

Yes these are extremely rare. I have a couple sets and the hubcaps are very hard to find.
Someone on Facebook recently reproduced ones that are very similar, but otherwise these tend to run for a lot of money.
Also ensure you have the correct lug bolts on ALL corners. Or you will get a shimmy. I have a few high quality reproduction bolts available for sale if needed. _________________ 1972 Super Beetle, Parked until adequate restoration funding is acquired in restoration!

I looked at the facebook post and yeah they want as much for the caps as the wheels. I think I'm just going to sell the 2 caps I have and find something else to use in place. I have all the right lug bolts.

Tim. I'd be interested in buying them off you.
