No Spring in My Springs

I have been working on my '58 Beetle for many years. i converted the front brakes to disk (4 hole), with 2.5" drop spindles. i thought i would just use adapter plates to keep the 5 hole's, but the adapter plates hit the calipers, so i had to put in spacers. because of this i put in a 2" narrowed (stock height to raised 4") front beam, and bought narrowed torsion springs to put in it. there is NO SPRING in the brand new springs. it drops down, and does not come back up AT.ALL. i don't want to spend a ton of money to buy new springs again, especially if the same thing might happen, so i am considering air shocks that would work on a link pin front end stock height to raised 4"? does anyone know what would work? Does the new beam have adjusters in it? From your description of stock height to 4" I'm assuming you do. Are you sure the adjuster just isn't all the way the wrong way?
