Cushion Direction?

I am fabricating a cushion for the back of my GL. I have been looking for one for quite a while, but as you all know they are hard to come by. I did see one in Kentucky posted this morning in the classifieds http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=654929 , but I have already ordered a 63" x 32" x 4.5" piece of 2.5 density foam. I had been using a baby crib mattress...not quite right.

In the Kentucky ad I saw in the pictures that there were notches at one end...do the notches go to the front or the back? I really don't see why they are there. There is nothing in my van that they would go around. Thx-

Mine go to the rear in my 1987 . I have airconditioning . In my 1986 I dont have airconditioning and there is'nt a notch.
