I'm looking to have the inside of my bus as original as posisble and this looks to me to be a pretty authentic original:
Image borrowed from thesamba - originally by P Horvarth
What colour is the interior painted, can anyone educate me please? I'm assuming the red overspray is factory?
Did they use different colours for deluxe busses to commercial vehicles?
Is it a primer or a top coat?
Cheers,
Dave |

Since no one answered yet, I will do my best.

Yes, that looks like the normal factory overspray.
The interior is the color of the lower half on earlier Buses and the upper half on later Buses. The change was made when the dashboard changed from being painted the lower color to the upper color. This was in mid-1961.

Your question is unclear to me.
For the Red? No. A Deluxe from the year above and a Commercial from the year above would be the same exact Sealing Wax Red (SWR) color, if they were both SWR from the factory.
Of course, there are different colors available between Deluxes and Commericials.

The grey is primer.
The red is the normal Bus outside paint. Top coat. _________________ How to Post Photos

Thanks Everett,
To summarise, the cab/exposed surfaces should be painted the lower colour in early buses and the rear should be left in primer where it is not seen behind panels?
Although on reflection I hadn't made it clear in my question, I was referring to the colour of the unseen paint - the primer. It appears to me to be a much darker grey on commercials than on the picture of the deluxe above - is that correct? Like on volksfahrer.nl's lovely panel van here:
My other concerns is using a primer may lead to the bus rusting internally as primer is porous (We don't refer to the UK as a dry state!).
The bus in question is a 59 panel van.
I'm also interested in how the factory dealt with the interfaces between the different colours above and below the swaqe line on buses. Where exactly should we be masking?
Cheers,
Dave |
