well this is an unexpected problem - I haven't been able to find any pictures or reference showing the proper alignment of the "THING" decals along the rockers..

Anyone have the correct measurements? Some good pics even?

I had a set from TTS (which I now cannot find on the site), that are extra-long and have about 5" forgiveness either way in placement.

I would just contact TTS. I am sure they would help you out.

Not saying it is for sure, but couldn't it be a copy of a '74 photo?

I think Citröen (The Domeck Brothers) own a never-titled '74 which they bought from a VW dealer. It also has dealer-installed AC. So yes, original pumpkin orange paint

Me being a Graphic Designer, I'm kind of a freak about, color, measurements, alignments etc. So this is what I did with mine: I aligned the the "G" on the right side with the door line in the front and the "T" on the left side with the door line in the front: ( I hope this is useful for you, greetings).

Here is an original Yellow Thing that we restored a few yeas ago. The customer was the second/third owner depending how you count owners.
This 74 was bought from the son of the guy - Ed) who bought the car new in Fort Collins at Ed Carroll VW. Ed towed this car behind his motor home for many years until his son got the car and sold it. This car absolutely has factory untouched paint except a repair to the passenger front fender. This car even had a factory original long arm passenger side mirror and a Saphire AM radio with type 3 mount and factory speaker. We carefully disassembled and then replaced ALL parts with any sign of wear with new or NOS German parts. I along had over 300 hours in the resto. Super fun project to do surgery on a patient that is very healthy to start with.

Here's a shot of my (mostly) original paint '74.
The letters are in line with the edge of the door on both sides, just as the purple drawing above.
