new engine issue

Hello all,
I have a 81 Westy with an engine that I just rebuilt and put back in my vanagon. It will not start. I have tested or replaced most things and double checked everything including:

spark wires, cap, rotor, condensor, plugs, static timing, fuel injectors,etc.

The weirdest thing happened when I tested the injectors. I took out the number 1 injector and turned over the key. Up to this point I had no start. When the starter turned, the engine roared to life and was running with out the #1 injector in. I put the injector in and was back to a no start.

Any suggestions on why this happens?

Fuel pressure in the rail? You need at least 26 psi to get into the game.

It does sound like your cold start valve is working though.

Removing one injector and leaving the port open is going to create a vacuum leak and make the other cylinders run lean. Pull the plug off the CSV and see if it will start with it disconnected.
