I have a CB performance maxi pump filter pump that I bought when I thought I'd be using a four rivet (dished) cam. It looks like I'm going to have to switch to a three rivet (flat) cam to find one with a cam gear the right size for my engine.

I'd rather not spend another £100 replacing the whole filter pump on top of the cost of the cam.

The maxi pump has 26mm gears and looks to me like a standard oil pump.

Standard 26mm oil pumps are quite cheap, so if I bought one of those for a three-rivet cam, would work with the CB perf. filter pump head or is the maxi pump body different to the stock pump body?

Email them, maybe they'll sell just the actual pump. Being in the UK means postage is the main issue.

Modify your pump. The drive tang is too deep, right? Push it in, machine whatever sticks up, and mill the back of the pump housing.

Om my Maxi 3 the tang stuck out 2mm too far. It turns out that the drive shaft is recessed 2mm in the cover plate side pump drive gear.

So in a field I tapped on the tang with a hammer until the shaft was flush, resting the gear on a block of metal. And it fitted perfectly.

Almost like somebody at CB or Schadek had thought of the problem..

I've dropped them a note. I think it's probably their '1795 Maxi Pump 1 (up to '70)'. I can get one on sale in the UK for £80.00, which saves £25.00 compared to the full filter pump kit. Not a huge saving, but normally that maxi pump 1 is closer to £100 over here (only £5.00 less than I can get the full filter pump kit for).

Not sure it would work? From this image on dunebuggy warehouse it looks like the difference is the thickness of the flange that mates against the case? A spacer and gaskets might work, but I don't have the facilities to make one and it would move the inlet and outlet holes out of line with the holes in the case.

I believe all of the CB maxi pumps can use the same covers.
Buy the cheapest one to get the pump body you need.... and you get a spare cover.

I use the CB maxi pumps EVEN with normal covers because it's just plain a better unit than shadec.

In case this helps anyone else in future; I dropped a line to CB perf., as per Glenn's suggestion.

They were really helpful. They confirmed that the pump body is the same as the Maxi Pump 1. The only difference is the cover instead of the filter head.

They don't list the pump body without the cover, but were prepared to sell one and for those of you in the US; that would be a substantial saving over the Maxi Pump 1 price, let alone the cost of a full filter pump.

For me though; even with the slowest shipping to the UK (10-20 days), our local taxes and the handling fee we get charged by the shipping company to collect the taxes meant it would come out almost as expensive as buying a MP1 on discount here. And it would take up to three weeks to arrive, so I'll probably buy the MP1 locally and bin the cover.

CB Perf. could ship it faster but the shipping costs go up significantly.

I've no complaint about CB Performance, they were really helpful.

For those of you in the US; there is a viable option if you decide to switch cam style after buying one of the Maxi Pump range.
