Good Mexi-bug site.
http://www.1600i.de/

Direct link to paint codes and upholstery (click English, then Generell, then Mexican Beetle Bodywork and Upholstery Colour Codes.

No. they are not. I am looking for a tag on the car, like in my '75 and '66 which lists original color code. I do not see it where I would expect it.

Unless the car's original simple paper assembly tag is still on the drivers B pillar there is NO paint code sticker on a Mexican beetle. If the tag is there however you'll find Mexico coded and called colors a little differently even though most were the same.
Mexican beetles used Jetta / Golf colors for their respective years. Since I think you have a 1998 white beetle it should be the Jetta's LA9B "Cool White" although in Mexico it was called "Blanco Polar" (Polar white).

Thanks Darby. Actually, I have a 2002 but the sticker is still there. I didn't think I saw a code when I looked there. Will have to check again, but it is raining (what a surprise in Seattle), so I will look later.

Ok found the sticker on the door and it says Color B7B7CE. Looked at the chart on 1600i web site, could not find it. So if this is the Jetta code what does it tell me?

B7B7 in Mexico is the same as LB9B "Cool White" here.
