Ive had some people ask about my build so Im going to try to document as much as I can. had alot of photos on an old phone that was destroyed so there aren't many photos from the beginning. Started the build over the winter, was originally going to use a 1.6NA diesel, found a donor car with a 1.9TD so I changed my mind. Work was pretty limited due to not having a garage, moving etc. Finally have time to get back to it so hopefully I can have it on the road in a couple weeks. Used a Kennedy Adapter for upright vw motors, cars a 68

What I worked on today, airscoop that doubles to hold the radiator. Will bolt to the old bumper mounts

Got a little more work done this morning. cleaned up the bay to get ready for paint, drilled uprights on radiator support. Also, front apron opening will be tapered, ran out of cutoff wheels. Think Im going to taper the intake scoop as well to help direct the flow.

yeah, I not so secretly would like a 2000-2006ish TDI bus. People would hate but whatever, tons of torque and excellent MPG. I think it would be perfect for a not so rare mid 60's custom bus
keep coming with the pics and let us know how it works _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

Thanks, yesterday and today was mostly cleaning up the block and trying to figure out how to make the rear mounts and bracing. I think I have it figured out, need to get some supplies and I'll test it tomorrow and get some more pics up. |

Took awhile for an update, wanted to get a second opinion on my rear mounts and bracing.
Started on modifying the trans mount, for those that don't know you can see the difference on each side
one side nearly done, it will make sense when you see the next part I have to make but I need to go buy a bigger drill bit first
all finished

I didn't have a 1in drill bit so I had to wait until somebody could do it for me but you can get a basic idea of part of the bracing. As long as the weather cooperates I can finish it tomorrow. Running 2 pieces underneath from the trans mount (beefed up a little bit) to a crossbrace in the back. Mounts for the front of the motor will bolt onto the cross brace. If it all works it should stiffen it up and help support any extra weight. It will all fit behind the rear apron to keep a stock looking appearance

needs more finishing work but this is what it will look like
looks like I may be moving across the country next week so Im not sure how much work I can do until I get to my new location, but I will finally have a garage so I won't be nearly as limited as I am now |

Looks great! Quick question though, are you planning on using conduit as engine supports or is that just for mock-up? |

Right now its for mockup/moving, I don't have access to equipment to bend real piping. It should be plenty strong enough to support any additional weight for the time being. Most of the weight is on the transaxle like a stock motor. |
